Preliminary study for the Via Favència public sports centre. Barcelona

The assignment consists of the preliminary study for a publicly owned and privately managed sports centre, located in the north area of Barcelona. The site, located at 348-362B Via Favència, is part of a bigger plot, owned by the City of Barcelona. It borders with the football field of Nou Barris, an elementary school and a public square which houses facilities for the elderly(home and assisted apartments).

The sports centre includes a 25m long swimming pool, spa, gym with four fitness rooms and outdoor solarium, bar and annexes. On the ground floor we find: reception, administration, bar and overlooking gallery for the pool. The pool, spa and the dressing rooms for groups lie at level -1. On the two upper floors we find of the dressing rooms and the gym with solarium.

With the desire to physically and visually expand the public space, the building retires above ground 13m from the limit set by the current building regulations. The square connects visually with the interior through the observation gallery, taking advantage of the space transparency.
