Preliminary study for a residential building on Rubens Street, Barcelona

The assignment is to design a residential building with underground community parking, on a plot located at the upper part of Barcelona, between Mare de Déu de Montserrat Avenue and Rubens Street.
The site is characterized by the sharp drop of more than 7 meters between the two streets.

Volumetrically, the building consists of a higher body, with four floors, facing Mare de Déu de Montserrat Avenue, and a lower body, with two floors, facing Rubens Street.
The proposal tries to take advantage of the plot orientation (optimal sunlight, views to Parc Güell) and dynamic topography, creating two entrances, one for each street at different levels (ground floor 0 and -2). Thus a roof garden is formed in the cover of the lower part of the building.
At the lowest level, a series of courtyards provide natural light and ventilation to the central and deeper housing. On the other hand, the highest volume has a double facade (north and south) therefore the apartments can be placed both of them.
