Competition for the improvement of the Platja d'Aro Promenade
The Platja d’Aro waterfront promenade is crowded in summer, when lots of tourists come and seasonal establishments and services multiply; in winter, on the contrary, it is a wider and less crowded space, for walking, cycling, enjoying the views and/or participating in activities of public interest throughout the year.
The project is based on this double scenario, with a common thread: we are designing an Urban Promenade – a container for different activities with a high concentration of people in the summer, and at the same time a promenade to enjoy practicing sports in front of the sea in the winter. In the summer, the promenade is a claim for Platja d’Aro, a dynamizing axis that complements and enhances its commercial axis. In the winter, on the other hand, the promenade is a quieter and more relaxed urban space, a place more properly for a walk.
The most prominent formal aspects of the proposal are color and organic shapes: the floor of the Promenade is designed as a harmonious composition of stripes of natural colors and soft contours, like the waves breaking on the beach. The colors of the sand combine to generate a unique visual frame, a composition of colored stripes making the Promenade an extension of the beach.
Also noteworthy is the design of the removable modules of the terraces.
